[ HOW IT WORKS / SIDEKICK ]

Connect once. Act forever.

Sidekick is not a chatbot you ping when you remember to. It's a background agent that watches your tools, builds a model of what matters to you, and takes action — on a schedule, in response to events, or the moment you ask.

  1. STEP 01 — CONNECT

Link your tools in under two minutes

Open the Connection Manager and authenticate each service with a single OAuth flow. Sidekick supports Gmail, Outlook, GitHub, Linear, Slack, Notion, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Google Calendar. Each adapter registers its own webhook path — you flip the switch once, real-time events start flowing immediately.

  2. STEP 02 — CONFIGURE

Tell the agent how you want it to behave

Set your autonomy level — ask-first, act-then-report, or fully autonomous — per integration. Define quiet hours so the agent respects your focus time. Set priority rules: 'always surface emails from my CEO within five minutes', 'ignore Dependabot noise'. The agent learns your preferences from every interaction.

  3. STEP 03 — RUN

The agent loop fires — continuously

Every scheduled cycle, Sidekick gathers events from every connected service, loads your context from a three-tier memory system (working, episodic, semantic), and calls the AI to decide what to do. Actions that need your sign-off appear in the Approvals queue. Everything else executes and lands in the Activity feed with a full reasoning trace.

  4. STEP 04 — CONVERSE

Talk to it anytime — it already knows the context

The in-browser chat interface is a live window into your agent. Ask 'What happened while I was away?' and it recaps the cycle. Say 'Draft a reply to Sarah's last email' and it resolves Sarah, retrieves the thread, and writes the draft. Responses stream in real-time — you see every tool call as it happens. Approve inline action cards without leaving the conversation.

[ ANALYTICS / WHAT YOUR AGENT DID ]

Measure the agent's output, not your own effort.

The Analytics dashboard tracks actions per day, active integrations, skill usage, memory utilization, and response times. Understand where your agent is spending its cycles — and tune accordingly.

[ AGENT ACTIVITY / LIVE VIEW ]

Every decision is visible. Every action is auditable.

The Activity feed shows what the agent did, the reasoning chain behind it, and what triggered each action. Nothing happens in a black box. The Decision Transparency Log gives you a full audit trail — filterable by integration, time, or outcome.

  • Real-time activity feed See every email drafted, issue created, and message sent — with the trigger event and reasoning shown inline.

  • Full reasoning chains Not just 'agent sent email' — but why, from which event, and what alternatives it considered.

  • Approval queue for high-stakes actions

[ APPROVALS / ASK-FIRST MODE ]

The agent proposes. You decide.

In ask-first mode, every action the agent wants to take appears as an approval card — in chat or in the Approvals queue. You see exactly what it will do, and why, before a single byte leaves your account.

[ AGENT MEMORY / THREE-TIER SYSTEM ]

It remembers what you told it last month.

Most AI tools have the memory of a goldfish. Sidekick runs a three-tier memory system — recent context in fast working memory, daily summaries in persistent episodic memory, and long-term patterns recalled via semantic vector search. 'Make it Manchester instead' works six weeks later.

Working memory

Recent events from the current session held in fast-access cache. The agent always knows what just happened — no context drift mid-task.

Episodic memory

Daily consolidated summaries stored persistently. Pick up any conversation where you left off, days or weeks later.

[ SKILLS / EXTEND THE AGENT ]

Skills teach the agent new jobs.

Browse 13,729+ community skills in the marketplace, or build your own with the guided skill editor. Each skill is a natural-language instruction set — what to do, which integrations to use, and when to run. Install one and the agent picks it up in the next cycle.

[ FAQ / COMMON QUESTIONS ]

Questions before you dive in

Deleting data, messaging new contacts, or any action you've marked ask-first surfaces for your sign-off before it runs.
  • Emergency kill switch One tap halts everything — stops the loop, cancels pending actions, disconnects integrations. You're always in control.

  • Sidekick agent activity feed — real-time log of agent decisions and actions

    Granular autonomy, per tool

Set GitHub to act-then-report (CI summaries, triage) while keeping Gmail in ask-first mode (nothing sent without your tap). Certain actions — deleting data, messaging strangers, financial transactions — always require confirmation, regardless of your autonomy setting.

    • Approve, reject, or edit any pending action before it runs

    • Inline action cards in chat — no context switch needed

    • Destructive actions always gated, even in full-auto mode

    • Per-integration autonomy overrides for fine-grained control

    Semantic memory

Long-term preferences and patterns recalled via vector similarity. The agent learns your working style, not just your commands.

Write natural-language instructions in the guided editor, specify which integrations the skill needs, and test in a sandbox before it goes live.

    Credentials stay encrypted

All OAuth tokens and API keys required by skills are stored with AES-256-GCM encryption. Update them centrally — every skill picks up the change.

You control exactly how much the agent does on its own. Three modes: ask-first (it proposes every action and waits for your tap to approve), act-then-report (it acts and tells you what it did), or fully-autonomous (silent execution). You can set different modes per integration — so the agent can read your GitHub repos freely but always ask before touching Gmail. On top of that, certain actions — deleting data, sending to a new contact, financial transactions, revoking access — require your confirmation regardless of which mode you're in. There's also an emergency kill switch that halts all activity instantly.
Built-in adapters ship for Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook and Microsoft 365 (email, calendar, OneDrive), Slack, GitHub, Linear, Notion, Telegram, Discord, and WhatsApp Business. Beyond those, Sidekick connects to the ClawHub skill ecosystem — a marketplace with 13,729+ community-built skills you can search, install, and configure directly from the dashboard. If you're coming from OpenClaw, there's a dedicated migration guide to import your existing skills and reconnect your accounts.
Sidekick uses a three-tier memory architecture. Working memory holds recent context so mid-conversation corrections ('actually make it Manchester') work naturally. Episodic memory stores daily summaries so the agent recalls what you worked on last week. Semantic memory uses vector search to surface long-term patterns — your communication preferences, recurring priorities, how you like to handle certain types of requests. Past conversations are searchable and resumable, and you can configure how long data is retained before it's automatically purged.
Every decision the agent makes is logged in a real-time activity feed: what it did, what triggered it, and the full reasoning chain behind it. When it's about to act, it renders an interactive card in chat showing exactly what will happen before it happens — approve, edit, or reject without leaving the conversation. You can also set rate limits per integration (for example, a cap on how many emails it can send per hour) and configure quiet hours so it queues actions rather than firing them while you're asleep.
Free gives you three connected integrations and 50 agent actions per day, with access to community skills from ClawHub. Pro removes the integration cap, raises the action limit to 1,000 per day, and adds the ability to build and publish your own custom skills plus priority support. Enterprise is uncapped, adds SSO, a dedicated support contact, and an SLA — and includes usage-based billing for high-volume months so you're not paying for headroom you don't use. If you downgrade, features phase out gradually rather than disappearing the moment you switch.
Yes. The custom skill builder walks you through writing natural-language instructions for what the agent should do, specifying which integrations the skill needs, and testing it in a sandbox before you turn it on. Sensitive values the skill needs — API keys, tokens — are stored encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and managed in a dedicated variable manager that shows exactly which skill needs which key. When a skill is ready to share, you export it as a SKILL.md file and publish it to ClawHub, where other Sidekick users can find it through semantic search.
